Acupuncture in the 3rd Trimester
Pregnancy Week 24-37
In the third trimester your baby is rapidly gaining weight. The baby practices breathing and can begin to detect light, and may suck a thumb. You may begin to feel uncomfortable! Acupuncture can help ease symptoms of Backache, Pubic symphasis pain, Edema- swelling in your hands and feet, High Blood Pressure, Gestational Diabetes, Premature Labor, Preeclamsia and Ecplampsia, Group B strep, Breech Presentation.
Around 34-35 weeks it is a good time to begin to prepare your body for labor. Acupuncture for labor induction treatments are done 1-2 times per week to begin to soften the cervix and promote a smooth, healthy labor and delivery.
In my first pregnancy I was consistently getting acupuncture weekly, and in the last 2 weeks I was in twice a week. Now that I have a 2 year old I have not been good about self care. As I was getting close to giving birth it began to consume my thoughts. I felt ungrounded and unstable. Now that I am back getting acupuncture my whole being has improved! My sleep is better and I am taking better care of myself. The treatments are so restful. For me the acupuncture in the third trimester makes all the difference. Ann, age 32
