Acupuncture in the First Trimester of Pregnancy (Weeks 4–12)
The overwhelming joy of a positive pregnancy test can quickly be accompanied by anxiety, poor sleep, nausea, and a sense of overwhelm. During these early weeks your body is undergoing profound changes, and many women benefit from additional support.
At Glow Natural Health Center, our acupuncturists are board-trained reproductive specialists with extensive experience supporting fertility and pregnancy. We have helped thousands of patients through early pregnancy and understand both the physical and emotional shifts that occur during the first trimester.
Acupuncture in the first trimester of pregnancy can help ease many uncomfortable symptoms while supporting a healthy and stable pregnancy. Depending on symptom severity, we typically recommend one to two treatments per week during this time.
We may also recommend other supportive therapies including dietary recommendations, moxibustion, herbs and supplements, Naturopathic Medicine or psychotherapy. Our team is here to support you with integrative care,
What is happening in early pregnancy?
After fertilization, the zygote divides repeatedly as it travels through the fallopian tube. Implantation typically occurs 10–14 days after ovulation. This is a remarkable period of development: the earliest stages of your baby’s nervous system form, and the primitive heart and circulatory system begin to develop.
While exciting, this time can also feel physically and emotionally intense.

Ease common symptoms with Acupuncture in the First Trimester of Pregnancy
Acupuncture during the first trimester of pregnancy may help:
-
Reduce nausea and morning sickness
-
Improve energy and reduce fatigue
-
Support digestion and reduce heartburn
-
Improve sleep quality
-
Decrease stress and anxiety
-
Support healthy blood flow to the uterus

This can be an especially important time for women who are experiencing spotting or who have had previous miscarriages. Gentle acupuncture treatments can help regulate the body’s stress response and support the body during this critical phase of development.
As always during early pregnancy, we encourage you to listen to your body and prioritize rest whenever possible.
Patient Experiences with acupuncture in the first trimester of pregnancy
Morning Sickness
“My pregnancy was going great until week 7 when the nausea really kicked in. I couldn’t eat or drink anything! The diet recommendations Lindsey gave combined with the acupuncture in the first trimester of pregnancy reduced my symptoms. They got me through until week 12 when I finally felt somewhat normal again. I particularly liked using the Happy Belly Tonic—I would drink it cold and sip it throughout the day.”

Bleeding in the First Trimester
“I came for acupuncture at 6 weeks pregnant after having 4 IUIs and 1 IVF cycle. I was feeling really stressed, anxious, and having heartburn, so I hoped acupuncture might help.
At 9 weeks I had heavy uterine bleeding and the doctors told me there was a ‘sac’ of blood in my uterus that they were concerned could rupture. I was terrified I would lose the baby. I continued acupuncture treatments and noticed the bleeding was lighter after sessions.
By 17 weeks the hemorrhage had reabsorbed and I could finally relax and enjoy my pregnancy. I delivered a healthy baby boy at full term. Thank you so much for helping me through such a challenging time.”
